1. Quality – the ENplus® certification scheme is a quality management certification scheme, covering all stages of the supply chain, from production through to delivery of wood pellets. The quality requirements for ENplus® certified pellet producers and traders can be found here.
2. Sustainability – compared to fossil fuels, using wood pellets produced using sustainably sourced raw material helps to fight climate change. The Biomass Suppliers List (BSL) is a list of wood fuel that has been proven to meet the eligibility requirements for the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme. It allows RHI participants to easily demonstrate to Ofgem that the fuel they are using in their biomass boilers meets the RHI sustainability criteria required to claim their RHI payments. However, it is important to realise that, unlike the ENplus® certification scheme, BSL authorisation does not guarantee the quality of the fuel as it is not a quality scheme.
